Iowa Forum for Peace and Democracy

The Forum aims to focus the efforts of its members on achieving lasting peace in Sudan and countries suffering from similar problems. It also seeks ways to unite competing visions in order to reach an agreement that paves the way for a democratic transition which ends present conflicts and achieves a lasting peace and sustainable democracy.

Iowa Forum for Peace and Democracy

The Iowa Forum for Peace and Democracy is a US 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. It seeks to promote peace in areas affected by conflicts and wars in the Sudan and other regions of the world. It also works to support democratic transformation in Sudan and countries suffering totalitarian regimes by: Holding continuing discussions between all sides which are concerned with the establishment of peace and the transition to democracy. This will be accomplished by means of meetings, seminars and conferences aimed at generating a consensus around these issues. Holding workshops to train activists and volunteers in the field of monitoring violations that threaten peace as well as monitoring the status of freedom, transparency, and democratic practice during election processes. Holding workshops to train pro-democracy organizations, political parties, and other organizations in spreading and strengthening the culture of democratic governance among their members and in both their internal and external activities. Initiating and maintaining contacts with international civil society and human rights organizations for the purposes of coordination and knowledge sharing. Maintaining cooperation and lines of contact with the centers of decision making with respect to the issues in question.
