Since its founding in 2009 in the American state of Iowa, and based on the initiative of Sudanese national activists, the (Iowa Forum for Peace and Democracy) has held eight conferences in several American states. Political activists from inside and outside the United States have contributed to energizing its dialogues, and the starting point was the holding of the inaugural conference at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. This was in October 2009 under the theme (Supporting Democratic Transition, Peace and National Unity). National activists from all over the States had participated in it, while some political leaders could only the address the conference virtually through Skype form overseas. In March 2010, the IFPD Democracy held its second conference in the American capital, Washington DC, at Georgetown University. This time, the conference was under the theme (Democratic transformation is everyone’s responsibility), and a distinguished group of national activists in the United States had participated in it. About six months later, in October 2010, the Forum held its third conference in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the University of North Carolina, and under the theme (The right to self-determination and referendum mechanisms: unity or self-determination). As for the fourth conference, it was held in September of 2011 at Kean University in New Jersey, and drew a good mix of Sudanese politicians, as well as recognizable American figures. About a year later, the fifth conference was held in October, 2012 in Denver, Colorado. The conference was held at the University of Colorado and was themed: (Towards a unified, civil, democratic Sudan). Politicians from inside and outside the United States participated in it. This conference was supportive of the success of the Kampala Conference, which held great significance at the time. Its output was the ratification of (the New Dawn Document) that was signed in Washington, D.C. In October of 2015, and for the second time, the IFPD held its sixth conference at George Mason University under the theme: (Towards a unified strategy for peace and democratic transformation in Sudan), then in April of 2018, and also again for the second time, the seventh conference was held at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. This also coincided with the beginnings of the outbreak of the Sudanese revolution in December of the same year (2018). As for the Forum’s last and eighth conference, it was held in Dallas, Texas, shortly after the victory of the Sudanese revolution, in June, 2019. This conference was under the theme: (Supporting the Revolution of Change in Sudan). It was a very important conference in supporting the revolution, and many activists and politicians in the American arena participated in it.
